Below you can find a little bit of biographical information about the man himself, Scott McCloud. If you keep venturing through the blog, you can find descriptions and examples of the different comic transitions that McCloud discusses in “Understanding Comics”. Finally, we’ve included some of his other key points that you may find helpful while understanding the basics of comics that can be found in different selections of his work.

Despite the abundance of information that can be found in both “Understanding Comics” and in McCloud’s other work, we decided to focus on comical transitions and the main points from his material for specific reasons. When first learning about comics, we found it extremely helpful important to learn about transitions and why they were used in certain situations. Transitions help readers engage with a particular story, allow us to make implications and assumptions, and require the audience to really put in effort to reading the comic. Because transitions are such a huge part of comics and can affect the comic stylistically as well as analytically, we thought it would be important to provide examples of the transitions from movies and media that readers may be familiar with to show that consideration is given to each and every scene that they may have never thought before. As far as discussing main points from McCloud’s works, we chose ideas that he discusses throughout multiple books and that we felt helped us understand the variety of comics we all have read and focused on for the past few months.
